In the United States, a number of candidates have already announced their intention to seek the Democrat or Republican nomination for the 2016 Presidential election.
For the Democrats, the candidate with the highest profile is former Secretary of State and former First Lady Hillary Clinton. Her competition includes Bernie Sanders—who is the longest-serving independent Senator—former Governor of Rhode Island Lincoln Chafee, and former Governor of Maryland Martin O’Malley.
Numerous figures have stepped forward on the Republican side. These include Jeb Bush, who is the brother and son of previous presidents, Rick Santorum attempting a second time, winner of a conservative straw poll for President Rand Paul, and famous billionaire Donald Trump.
